I am teaching students two different ways to combine unlike fractions.
One is easy. We refer it to finding the Easy Common Denominator method.
It is a great method to use, but requires students to do a bit more simplifying after.

The other is better. We refer to it as the Lowest Common Denominator method.
Why is it better? There is less reducing or simplification required because the fractions get renamed as small as possible.
